Formations

Verb-てform + いた
The polite form is ていました. い is usually omitted, so you’ll mostly hear てた/てました.

Examples

彼は公園で散歩していました。
Kare wa kōen de sanpo shite imashita.
He was walking in the park.

昨日、激しい風が吹いていた 。
Kinō, hageshī kaze ga fuite ita.
The wild wind was blowing yesterday.

私たちは静かにしていました。
Watashitachiha shizukani shite imashita.
We kept quiet.

彼は仕事をさぼっていた。
Kare wa shigoto o sabotte ita.
He was skipping work.
